It is absolutely fascinating when someone local is carrying out full refurishmet of their home.  You realise something’s afoot when several builders start parking around your  neighbourhood.  Out pour those sometimes many years worth of cabinets and effects.  The decorators come in when there’s a need to get the walls and ceilings sorted before the next phase begins.  The installing of the new units and the flooringis is truly inspiring – watching the professionals at work.  They make such light work of it.  The modern kitchens these days are truly fabulous, every whim catered for.   A house in the next close to mine has had all these full reworking modifications and we watched with eageress as each phase was rolled out.

The carpets looked pretty good still but no, out they came complete with the top quality underlay supplied from new. The new ground floor was to be composite tiled in a herringbone pattern.  Must have cost a bomb for not only the hundreds of boxes but the time it took for the builder to lay these was incredible.  There is a knack with the narrow tiles and if they asre not started at exactly the right spot, the pattern soon goes all astray and the work has to start over.  The delivery of the new kitchen is always an excitent for the casual observer too.  The new units need time to bed in before the granite worktops are fitted – that is so expensive that only professions cut and fit quartz or marble.

The world of the small time buildier and decorator is most definitely now!
