Now that winter has really made it’s mark, there is good reason for not hanging around but get on with those winter jobs. Take the pathways and patios for example. These get really dangerously slippery with moss and slimey residues from animals. The best way to clean a small area is to take a hard bristled yard brush and scrub up the loose stuff. Then literaly take a bucket of very hot water with a big dollop of household bleach. This usually does the job very quickly. For larger areas, a powerful pump action hose spray will definitely do the business.
Another very important job just now is to ensure the guttering around the property is as clear of leaves and dead birds nest material as possible. When this is neglected, residues of this years activity from the gaden birds nesting will be a threat to the existing downpipes. Get the gutters cleared regularly so the residue of these doesn’t go down the pipes causing a blockage and possible leak over the side. Nothing worse than rain water spilling down a very high downpipe from the gutter because of a blockage. Another job to be considered is providing adequate lighting – there are many outdoor lighting schemes available from the local superstores. These can be globe shaped, or bollard types and in the now excellent range of solar powered, will be eassier for visiting animals or shouse pets to see their way about. The bollard types placed at regular intervls down a long pathway is really helpful to all.
